Does my website need a speed score of 100?
No. Chasing a perfect score misses the point. The real test is whether the website feels fast to your users. If it feels quick and smooth, it can still rank well with a poor test score.
What optimization scores are actually for
Speed tests help identify where users may get stuck. They give you a direction for improving loading and introduce newer techniques to consider. In other words, the test score itself is not what determines your SEO ranking.
Google’s tools also use Core Web Vitals to look at loading, responsiveness and visual stability. These concern real user experience rather than just a test result. Pay attention to those experiences instead of obsessing over a tool’s score.
